Oracle announced this week it would move Java 7 to a Java 6 transition, but Java 7 development tools are not yet ready to switch.
“We have some really important work ahead of us, but we are not quite ready to transition to Java 7,” Scott Guthrie, Oracle’s vice president of Java product development, told reporters on a conference call.
Oracle has been working to improve the performance and stability of Java 7.
Java 7’s release has been delayed several times over the last two years, as developers have had to work around a new release schedule, which Oracle announced in June would be “more than three years behind schedule.”
In the call, Guthrie said that the switch to Java 6 would be possible in the near future.
He did not give a timeline.
